The new 'Self Portrait' from Julian Koerndl, on F31, stands in Yulia Niko's Melodig [ADE] Week 2 chart as its seventh entry among 11.

The track rests on a simple, unhurried bed of rolling percussion, nothing about the drum pattern demands attention, and it does not ask for any. Its detail is in the harmony: a weighted, low centre of gravity that draws the ear in and holds it there, while the top end sits muted, as if the high frequencies have been asked to speak quietly so the midrange can say more. The result is music that feels substantial without ever raising its voice, a quality that does not rely on dramatic gesture.
