Enamour 'Zizzy' on Frau Blau

'Zizzy' is the kind of track that feels immediate but also rewards close listening, with its level share between drum and harmony, its dense hit pattern, and its forward but compressed mix all helping it land somewhere between urgency and hypnosis. The percussion is bright, almost brittle, and each hit lands with a purpose that keeps the track moving without ever feeling busy. The harmonies are in the spaces, weaving in and out of the top end, and there is a sense of restraint throughout that makes the track feel as much about what is left out as what is put in.

Released on Frau Blau on 5 July, it has already found a natural home in sets from those who like their melodic techno with a bit of bite. It is one of those records that works in the club but also holds up on a pair of headphones, which is probably why it found its way to the top of Enamour's own Zizzy chart on 4 July, a nine-track selection that shows a clear ear for the deeper, more hypnotic side of the sound.
