Echonomist, OVEOUS 'The Story Behind' on Exit Strategy

Greek producer Echonomist teams up with OVEOUS for 'The Story Behind', a house-leaning record with a satisfying, drum-led arrangement, released 28 Feb 2025 on Exit Strategy. Argy placed it in the Spring Hitters chart, where it came in fourth out of ten, on 6 Mar.

In the field, the drum does the work. The percussion sits as a continuous, forward-moving presence; there is a low end that gives, without ballooning, and a top end that carries plenty of air. It doesn't muscle its way through the mix. It simply does not need to. The melodic material is restrained, treated as structure rather than statement, and it leaves room for the rhythm to breathe.

The record appears at the tail end of the Tulum season, where a drum-first sound like this tends to find its natural home, and finds Echonomist deepening a discography that has mostly been shaped by releases on Innervisions, Natura Viva and Watergate, among others. Here he works with OVEOUS, and together they make a record that holds the floor without ever needing to raise its voice.
