Bontan, AMEME, Don Bello Ni 'Batonga' on One Tribe Records

Bontan placed 'Batonga' (Extended Mix) with AMEME and Don Bello Ni, on One Tribe Records, at 19th of 20 in the Sabo Summer Solstice Chart of 24 June. The instrumental lives in one continuous and clean-toned wash from the open to the close, with the repeated vocal gesture the only thing that rises from that sound.

Here, Bontan, AMEME and Don Bello Ni have written a track that puts its centre in between its drums and its harmony: there is no feature or melody that stands out above the others for long, and so it is a record that looks from the DJ booth down into the room, rather than one that commands the room's attention. The drums sit settled and continuous, in a pattern that holds where it is and does not vary much from bar to bar. The low end holds the level of the whole record, but it remains low in the mix, rather than thumping. The top end is dark.
